Insights from AG Insurance's survey on sunscreen habits

A recent survey conducted by AG Insurance has brought to light some alarming statistics regarding sunscreen use among the population. Despite the well-documented risks associated with sun exposure, many people still do not use sunscreen as frequently as needed, increasing their risk of skin cancer and other skin-related issues.

Key findings from the survey

AG Insurance's research revealed several critical insights:

  • Nearly half (46%) of the respondents do not apply sunscreen frequently enough, and 1 in 8 (13%) never use it at all.

  • A significantly higher percentage of men (18%) compared to women (8%) reported never using sunscreen.

  • Both younger (Gen Z, 18-23 years) and older individuals (Baby Boomers, 69+ years) are less likely to use sunscreen, with about 20% in each group never using it.

  • Children are particularly vulnerable, yet nearly one in four parents (23%) admit to not applying sunscreen to their children often enough (16.3%) or never at all (6.4%).

The role of sunscreen in preventing skin cancer

Using sunscreen is one of the most effective ways to protect your skin from the harmful effects of UV radiation. Regular application of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 can significantly reduce the risk of developing skin cancer and prevent premature aging. Ensuring that sunscreen is part of your daily routine, regardless of the weather, is essential for maintaining healthy skin.

Promoting better sunscreen habits

Education and awareness are key to improving sunscreen use. Public health campaigns and easy access to sunscreen can make a significant difference. By placing sunscreen dispensers in high-traffic areas such as parks, beaches, sports facilities, and other public spaces, we can encourage people to apply and reapply sunscreen as needed throughout the day.

Sundo and AG Insurance

AG Insurance, a trusted partner of Sundo, is playing a vital role in these efforts. Together, we are ensuring that there will be numerous sunscreen dispensers available at festivals, beaches, and public locations across Belgium. This partnership aims to make sunscreen more accessible and promote better skin health practices.

The insights from AG Insurance's survey highlight significant gaps in the public's sunscreen habits. By increasing awareness and improving access to sunscreen, we can make a substantial impact on skin cancer prevention.
